Kodiak Bear

This is my favorite photograph that I have ever taken. This was taken at the Toronga Zoo in Australia. The bear was just posing perfectly while taking his nap. I wish that I had a better camera at the time, but it still turned out not half bad.

Cockatoo

This beautiful cockatoo was just sitting in this tree directly above the sidewalk right outside of Melbourne, Australia. The tree was absolutely full of them. It was incredible to see such gorgeous animals out in the open when the only place I was used to seeing them was cooped up in cages. Just one more reason I can't wait for my next trip to Australia.

Hepatozoonosis

This is an example of a Hepatozoon americanum gamont in a monocyte present in the peripheral blood of a dog. These gamonts appear as crystal blue inclusions in monocytes or neutrophils. They may be very difficult to find and require careful examination of buffy coat smears.

Komodo Dragon

This is a female Komodo dragon that presented for neurologic signs. She was placed under general anesthesia and had spinal radiographs and a CT done. Unfortunately, nothing conclusive showed on the imaging, but it was a unique experience.

Black Bear

This black bear was brought in by Wildlife & Fisheries to be radiographed to check for bullets. It was suspected that the bear had been shot but managed to escape the hunters only to die from his wounds later. After radiographing nearly his entire body, a significant amount of small metal opacities, consistent with shotgun pellets, was found in his hip and thigh.

Green Iguana Anesthesia

This iguana is under general anesthesia for two surgical procedures. He has a large abscess under his left mandible which needed to be opened and drained, and there is a large ulcerated neoplasm on the end of his tongue that was removed with cryosurgery.
